Brainwave entrainment is used to induce a desired brain activity state.Isochronic tones are a type of tone used in brainwave entrainment. Isochronic tones are tones, not music! They are made up of a single tone that is emitted at precise intervals as a very powerful way to entrain the brain to a desired frequency for the purposes of stress relief, relaxation, meditation, self-improvement and mind development.

What is Brainwave Entrainment?

Brainwave entrainment is the directed use of sound or light to cause the brain’s electrochemical frequencies to align with or fall into step with a frequency that matches the desired brainwave state. Each brainwave state corresponds to a certain level of consciousness – awake and alert (beta), relaxed/light meditation (alpha), deep meditation/sleep (theta) and extremely deep meditation/deep sleep (delta). The brain’s ability to fall in step with the external stimulus is called the “frequency following response.” The brain will change its dominant frequency to that of the frequency of the stimulus. This allows for easy meditation without needing years and years of practice. Isochronic tones are a type of tone used in brainwave entrainment. You may have experienced something like this already. If you have ever been to a dance club, the powerful rhythmic characteristic of the music will quickly have you – consciously or unconsciously – moving your body along with the beat. You almost can’t help it! That’s the same as the brain falling into step with the entrainment frequency. It’s a very natural and normal phenomenon!

You may have heard of binaural beats as a type entrainment tone. Currently there are two additional technologies available for brainwave entrainment: monaural beats and isochronic tones.

A Quick Overview of the Three Types of Entrainment Tones

Binaural beats: two tones of slightly different pitches (frequencies) are used to create the entrainment tone. Each tone is sent via headphones; one tone into the left ear, and one tone into the right ear, at exactly the same time. The brain actually creates the tone by combining the two tones. You don’t hear two separate tones, only one tone. Binaural beats require the use of headphones: otherwise the beats do not exist since there is no way to isolate the tones in each ear (both ears would hear both tones, and the brain would not create the desired frequency). Although some say that binaural beats for deep sleep are not as effective in entrainment as monaural or isochronic tones, binaurals are more effective at creating hemispheric synchronization. This synchronization is believed to help with clarity of thought and promote genuis thinking where creativity and logic are used equally.

Monaural beats: monaural beats are produced in the ears as a response to sounds with differing qualities. Like binaural beats, they are sounds not found in nature but quite common when listening to machinery with a consistent sound. You might, for example, hear the sound of two engines that merge together to create a resonance quality in the building. You can literally feel the surges of vibrations as the two tones ‘collide’. You might hear two guitar strings of different pitches plucked simultaneously; the subsequent frequency (pitch) is what you perceive, not the individual frequencies. Monaural beats do not require headphone use.

Isochronic tones are tones that pulse very quickly, turning on and off rhythmically. The entrainment frequency is produced very simply by turning the desired tone on and off repeatedly. Isochronic tones don’t require the use of headphones, although their effect may be  more pronounced with headphones because of lack of external stimuli “polluting” the on/off pulse of the tone. Experts generally agree that isochronic tones may be more effective at creating entrainment than either monaural or binaural beats.

Isochronic tones are felt in the body, not just heard with the ears.Unlike binaural beats, isochronic tones can be listened to over open speakers using or whole-body listening. This is called Cymatics. The brain does not perceive sound only through the ears. Have you ever been in a situation where you felt a beat in your whole body, like at a rock concert? Even deaf people can ‘hear’ sounds as vibrations in their bodies rather than in the ears. The brain and the body both perceive (‘hear’) consistent external stimuli. Isochronic tones are a relatively new technology as opposed to binaural beats and monaural beats, which have been around for over a century. You may get a deeper level of entrainment with isochronic tones than with binaural beats alone because of the whole-body entrainment.

Are isochronic tones safe? Yes. Brain entrainment is not brainwashing! The brain has a natural tendency to entrain to any persistent tone.  The tones affect the electrochemical activity in the brain just as naturally as you would become relaxed when listening to soft, continuous drumbeats. This affects your mood and your state of consciousness – brainwave entrainment does not imprint any thoughts or ideas into your mind and there are no harmful physical effects.

Use brainwave entrainment to promote inner peace and relieve stress! What you do while you are in a particular state of consciousness is up to you! Isochronic tones can safely be used to promote relaxation, meditation, and even restful sleep. Brainwave entrainment has also been used to treat ADHD and various personality disorders, but its main purpose is to promote relaxation and deep meditation. Many people feel an extremely deep sense of calm when they listen to entrainment tracks that include isochronic tones, because they feel the beat in their bodies – this is much like a baby being lulled to sleep by its mother’s heartbeat!

Many Fortune 100 companies are using brainwave entrainment to enhance staff members’ focus, intelligence, concentration, memory, critical thinking,  problem-solving abilities and more. Brainwave entrainment is a popular tool for personal development – with outstanding results in deeper relaxation, improved self-mastery and deep meditation! Just 15-30 minutes of daily listening to your Omharmonics meditation audio track will increase your inner peace, reduce stress and give you a more positive outlook on life.
